It is a piece by George Gershwin, titled “3 Preludes: No 2
in C-Sharp Minor.” They are using this piece at the end of each episode, switching from clarinet to violin as the solo instrument for different episodes. Gershwin composed it as a piano piece. You can find a clarinet version of this on Amazon under “Porgy and Bess Suite: 3 Preludes (arr F Villard) No 2 in C Sharp Minor.” I like the arrangement and clarinetist used on the TV show, but it doesn’t appear to be for sale, unfortunately.

That’s the haunting and yet lyrical Prelude #2 in C# minor by George Gershwin — Don, Tucson

The music at the end of “The Plot Against America” was driving me nuts because I knew it so well but couldn’t name it. Then it hit me: I’m a bit of a Gene Kelly scholar and he used it in a street gang type style of dance in “Dancing: It’s A Man’s Game.” Great dance and great music.

Hello Sweet Sue (and the Society Syncopators?),
Big Gene fan here, as well.

There is a recording by the Ridenour’s with a muffled trumpet and piano that sounds like the end credits. The Gershwin piece is so haunting. I would love to hear it played on the harmonica, a very Jewish instrument, and there is one recording by a Chinese quartet, but not so great.

You can also find all three preludes (and other gems) on the album Levant Plays Gershwin. The moment after I heard the closing credits song of this show, I knew it was Gershwin. Then, like most of you, tried to figure out which piece it was (knowing it was one of the Preludes.
